This monster 'big boys toy' crane arrived on site today to erect the galvanised steelwork for the balcony along with the remaining steels required to allow the brickies to get started next week.
The balcony will be on the first floor and requires a cantilevered design to support the weight. Hopefully we'll be able to sit out there next summer and enjoy a nice glass of red in the evening sunshine.
I also had a brief meeting with Peter (the builder) and Ewan (the architect) on site to fine tune the design and develop a few ideas for further down the line.
Bearsden has been 'hit' by snow & freezing temperatures in the last few days but despite this (slow) progress continues to be made on site.
The first of three steel 'windposts' have now been installed - designed to support the block work when it is layed (hopefully starting next week). Weather updates over the next few days suggest a thawing which should help with the planned installation of more structural 'galvanised' steel for the balcony later in week 10.
Also, the scaffold has now been extended to completely envelope the entire plot now.
Looks like overall we're currently running a couple of weeks behind agreed schedule - hopefully we'll make that up when the brickies arrive on site in week 11.
